Joshua Hovey was always interested in aviation from a young age. He discovered that the University of North Dakota had the best aviation program in the country and so he applied to attend UND while finishing up his private pilot license in Midland, Michigan. He is currently a Senior pursuing a degree in Aviation Management. He has been involved in SAMA since 2013, having served as Treasurer and Career Fair Co-Director. He hopes to attain employment in the aviation industry after graduation. Along with being involved in SAMA, Joshua has also been involved in various intramural sports, and the Fellowship of Catholic University Students.
Mike Corcoran’s interest in aviation brought him to UND from Cheshire, Connecticut. He is currently pursuing a double major in Air Traffic Control and Business Economics. Mike is involved around campus, serving as the president of Delta Tau Delta fraternity, an also a member of Mortar Board, Order of Omega, and Student Ambassadors.
Maggie Heraty, from Chicago, Illinois, is a senior studying Air Traffic Control and Spanish. Maggie’s passion for travel and seeing the world led her into the field of aviation. Maggie studied abroad in Spain in Spring of 2016 and is a member of Student Leaders International and has also been involved with Students Today, Leaders for Life (STLF), participating in a volunteer based trip. She is also involved Delta Gamma, Order of Omega, and Student Ambassadors.
Jacob Cuda, is in his junior year at the University of North Dakota. Jacob is pursuing a degree in Commercial Aviation and Aviation Management. Originally from Brownsville, MN. His passion for aviation began at an early age when he flew a float plane in Canada with his parents. Jacob began flying when he was in high school and got his private pilot license before beginning flying in North Dakota. This is Jacob’s third year in SAMA, in addition to his involvement in SAMA he is the Resident Assistant on the Aviation Living and Learning Community. In this environment he coordinates aviation events for his floor and helps develop freshman on their way to becoming aviation professionals. Outside of college Jacob is a member of the Minnesota National Guard. In his spare time he enjoys traveling to National Parks, fishing, and spending time with friends.
Matthew Frenette is the Travel Director for SAMA. He is from Denver, Colorado and is currently a sophomore at the University of North Dakota majoring in Air Traffic Control and specializing in Aviation Safety. For this year’s fall trip, he planned a four day trip to Denver, Colorado to tour its aviation attractions, like Denver International Airport, Denver TRACON, and the United Airlines Training Center and to also have fun around the city. Matthew has also helped SAMA by being a speaker host last year for the conference and saw this as a good opportunity to get further involved in SAMA. This is his first time holding an officer position in SAMA and is looking forward to watch this professional organization continue to grow.
Connor Brennan, from Apple Valley, MN, is a sophomore at the University of North Dakota. Connor was brought into aviation from his 10th birthday party at a flight simulator in the Mall of America. Connor had his first flight before he turned 17, and his private's before he went to school to pursue a Commercial Aviation major. When not studying, flying or in class, Connor can be found on ski hills, snowboarding.
Ember Willard is originally from Minnesota but was drawn to the University of North Dakota because of the rolling hills and plentiful quantities of lakes native to Grand Forks and the surrounding areas. In addition to indulging in the state’s illustrious beauty, Ember also enjoys studying, professional body building, and being a mother to her pet snakes, Zach and Cody. It’s a sweet life. Ember is a member of Kappa Alpha Theta, Student Ambassador Executive Board, and Chi Alpha.
Alison is a senior from DeForest, WI. She is majoring in Commercial Aviation and Unmanned Aircraft Systems. In addition to SAMA Alison is also the President for UND's Chapter of Women in Aviation, Young Eagles Coordinator of EAA Chapter 1342, and is a CFI at UND and the local FBO. In her free time Alison enjoys running, traveling, and spending time outside. After graduation Alison hopes to fly for a corporate flight department or work for a company flying unmanned aircraft.
Joe is a Sophomore at the University of North Dakota originally from Midland, Michigan pursuing a degree in Aviation Management. Joe has been interested in flying ever since he went to the National Air Force Museum in Dayton, OH as a young boy. Joe had his first flight the day after his 16th birthday at his hometown airport and will never forget the incredible feeling that flight gave him. Other than flying Joe likes to play hockey, hiking, and just hanging with his friends. He’s currently working towards his instrument, commercial, and multi-engine licenses. He is also the 2017 SAMA Career Fair Director, and a member of Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity. Joe is excited to be involved with Student Aviation Management Association Career Fair Director.
Sydni is currently a sophomore at UND and is from Ogden, Utah. She is working on attaining both her Commercial Aviation and Flight Education degree. This is Sydni's first year as a SAMA officer and this year she is the Co-Conference Director. Sydni is also involved in the Student Aviation Advisory Council and the Experimental Aircraft Association on campus. Sydni is very excited to make an impact at UND and leave a positive impact. She is eager to develop her professional career here at UND and prepare for her life as a professional pilot.
Michael LaCoursiere is a senior Aviation Management student from South St. Paul, Minnesota. He developed a passion for flying at a young age by studying aviation history books and playing flight simulators. This led him to pursue a career in aviation at UND, where he earned his private pilot certificate. In the future he hopes to fly for a commercial or corporate airline. This is Michael's third year in SAMA, and previously served as Media Director. When he’s not studying or working, Michael enjoys travelling, swimming, spending time with friends, and watching movies.
