Internship Series
SAMA members who have completed internships at
various aerospace or aviation related companies often host
presentations to the rest of fellow SAMA members
in our internship series. The internships series allows
everyone to see what an internship is like at these companies such
as American Airlines, United Airlines, SkyWest Airlines, etc. SAMA's
internship series will show members how the application process
works, duties of an intern, and the benefits of completing an
internship. The insight is beneficial to those wanting to
obtain an internship in the aerospace or aviation industry. Why do an internship? Research has found that students who had completed internships found employment more quickly following graduation, were more likely to be employed within their fields of study, and were more satisfied with their jobs. Employers actively seek students with career-related work experience. Your odds of obtaining a job in today's competitive marketplace are much greater if you have relevant experience. In fact, large corporate employers recruit over 50% of their new full-time employees from “in house” internship programs. The
best reason to do an internship is to gain practical career experience before
college graduation. This will help you either confirm a career choice or make a
decision to choose a different one. You can make an informed decision
about whether you are truly interested in a particular career — a
good thing to know before you graduate! Where do I find an internship? Unfortunately, there is no one single place to find an internship, but UND and SAMA are here to help. Many aviation internship are posted online on the UND Aerospace Student Services Job's page. However, don’t think of this list as the only internships available. Your most important resource for internship hunting will be your network of contacts. It is also recommended that you attend the SAMA Internship presentations to learn from those who have had first-hand internship experiences.
