About SAMA

The Student Aviation Management Association (SAMA) was founded in 1975 as an organization for Airport Administration majors. Since then, it has grown to include members representing all aviation majors with the John D. Odegard School of Aerospace Sciences. SAMA's primary goals are to promote aviation professionalism and camaraderie at the collegiate level, and to develop scholastic relationships with the entire University of North Dakota's (UND) student population. In 1983, SAMA achieved what no other student aviation organization in the nation had - it became an academic chapter of the American Association of Airport Executives. SAMA prides itself on being one of the most active student organizations on the UND campus. One of our major function is the SAMA Aerospace Conference & Career Fair, which is a culmination of a year-long efforts made by its members. Hard work, dedication, and enthusiasm make this event a huge success. See below for more information on major SAMA activities and events.

SAMA Major Activities & Events:

42nd Street Clean-Up

SAMA adopted the 42nd Street in conjunction with Grand Forks Adopt-A-Street program. Each fall and spring, SAMA members get together to do a little patrol work and clean up the debris on the 42nd Street. For ten years this has been a per project of SAMA's and continues with great enthusiasm and dedication for SAMA members who donate their time. The Street runs through campus between Clifford and Ryan Hall. SAMA members take pride in keeping the street adjacent to UND Aerospace clean. You can find pictures of this event in the SAMA Photo Gallery.

Annual Trip to an Aviation City

In addition to understanding the aviation industry in the classroom, correlating this understanding with hands on experience provides an excellent foundation for tomorrow's leaders in aviation. Annually the members of SAMA travel to a major aviation city to achieve that valuable experience in our dynamic industry. You can find more information in the SAMA Trip's section.

Annual Aerospace Conference & Career Fair

The SAMA Conference is the largest student organized professional event held on the campus of the University of North Dakota. The conference consists of a variety of topics ranging from all facets of the professional Aerospace Industry.  We will be inviting speakers ranging from Airlines, Corporate, Air Traffic Control, the FAA, to meteorology, the NTSB, Airport/Aviation Management, and NASA.  We will also have a very exciting career fair that invites over 35 airlines, regional, domestic and also manufacturing companies like Boeing, Jeppesen and Bendix King to come and share what their company is all about! Be sure to visit our Conference & Career Fair page for more information and pictures.

Annual Odegard Open

The Annual SAMA Odegard Open golf tournament is paired with our Conference & Career Fairs held annually during Parent's Weekend at UND.  There is a tournament entry fee.  The proceeds from the Odegard Open go to scholarships that SAMA awards to deserving UND aviation students each year.  In addition, a portion of the money is given to help fund the Pilots for Kids community project.  The tournament is played best ball with teams of four people.  The tournament entry fee includes free driving range balls before the tournament, lunch, a golf gift and a golf cart.  Be sure to visit our official announcement on our Conference & Career Fair page!
